Oysters

Oysters helps you on the way and become more active and secure in yourself

There’s nothing particularly sexy about eating oysters, yet they are without a doubt one of the most famous aphrodisiacs. According to Dr. Lisa Young, oysters have earned the flattering title of “libido booster” because they are rich in zinc, which can play a role in regulating testosterone production. Another link between oysters and libido is that the zinc they contain helps improve dopamine levels in the body. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter associated with feelings of pleasure, and studies have shown a connection between dopamine and sexual function when it comes to improving erectile dysfunction.

Saffron

Saffron helps you on the way and become more active and secure in yourself

If you haven’t cooked with saffron—a spice used in many Indian and Moroccan dishes—you’re missing out for two important reasons. Not only does it add flavor to your food, but saffron has also been shown to have aphrodisiac properties.

In a phytomedicine study, a group of men with erectile dysfunction (ED) received a 200-milligram saffron pill every morning for 10 days. After 10 days, researchers found that saffron tablets had a positive effect on cases of erectile dysfunction. Specifically, they increased the number of erections and their duration.

Avocado

Avokado helps you on the way and become more active and secure in yourself

According to Young, you may want to make extra guacamole or add a few slices of frozen avocado to your next smoothie. These fruits contain healthy unsaturated fats, and including healthy fats in your diet is important for hormonal health.

“Avocado also contains the B-vitamin folate, which helps create histamine, a compound released during orgasm or when someone is aroused,” Young explains.

Avocado

Pistachios

Pistachios helps you on the way and become more active and secure in yourself

A small research study found that pistachios may have aphrodisiac-like properties. However, the study included only 17 male participants, so more research is definitely needed.

All participating men reported having erectile dysfunction for at least 12 months. Each ate 100 grams of pistachios every day for three weeks, and at the end of the study their erectile dysfunction had decreased. Not only that, but their levels of LDL (“bad”) cholesterol also went down.

Pistachios

Maca

Maca Root helps you on the way and become more active and secure in yourself

Think about it—it's a plant from the same family as kale or broccoli, but the most common way to consume it is as a powder that can be added to meals or smoothies. Some refer to this powder as “nature’s Viagra,” and research suggests this may be true. In a small study, a group of men with erectile dysfunction received either maca or a placebo for 12 weeks. By the end of the 12 weeks, the men who received maca reported increased sexual desire and overall sexual well-being.

Red Ginseng

Red Ginseng helps you on the way and become more active and secure in yourself

A common root that grows in many Asian countries is widely known as an aphrodisiac. You can buy this root whole, in capsules, as an extract, or in powder form. Some teas also contain red ginseng as a main ingredient. Research has found that this herb may offer several potential health benefits, ranging from cardiovascular protection and improved immunity to antioxidant effects—and yes, even the ability to increase libido.

Red ginseng

Blackberries

Blackberries helps you on the way and become more active and secure in yourself

According to Young, berries—especially blackberries—are another food to add to your plate as an aphrodisiac.

“They are generally healthy and may help men maintain an erection, since foods rich in flavonoids (and blackberries are especially full of them) are associated with a lower risk of erectile dysfunction,” Young says.

If you’re looking for an extra boost in the bedroom, these foods may help.

Blackberries

Dark chocolate

Dark chocolate helps you on the way and become more active and secure in yourself

Dark chocolate is often marketed as an aphrodisiac, and while it’s not as strongly supported by research as some other foods, there are a few reasons it has this reputation: It boosts feel-good chemicals, contains compounds that stimulate the release of Serotonin, Dopamine and“love molecule,” released when you’re attracted to someone. These chemicals don’t directly increase sexual performance, but they can help set a more positive, relaxed, and connected mood. It contains antioxidants that support blood flow
